Suggested Lifestyle Changes

Skincare Recommendations

1

Avoid tobacco smoking as studies shown tobacco smoking can increase collagenase, an enzyme that breaksdown collagen. This could lead to destruction of skin connective tissues.

2

Apply skincare products containing retinyl retinoate could be effective in photo-aged (aging due to exposure to sun) skin where it can help significantly improve photoageing-induced wrinkles.

3

Skincare products containing oat beta-glucan could help promote the production of procollagen, which is transformed into collagen. Thus resulting in the tightening of facial skin and reduction of fine lines and wrinkles.

4

Skincare products containing retinoid acid could help promote elastic fibre regeneration, which will reduce the severity of wrinkles.

5

Studies have shown that niacinamide (vitamin B3) provides appearance improvements in terms of wrinkles and hyperpigmentation.

6

Apply sunscreen daily before sun exposure.

What Is Wrinkle
and How Can It Affect You

What is Wrinkle

Wrinkles, fine lines and deep furrow are formed when our epidermis is unable to maintain the adequate amount of water to keep our skin moisturized. Once our skin do not contain sufficient collagen, it will become sagging thus forming wrinkles. There are two main factors that causing the wrinkles, intrinsic factor due to normal aging and extrinsic factor which is caused by repeated exposure of sun ultraviolet (UV) radiation and tobacco smoking. Naturally aged skin appeared to be smooth, dry, pale and finely wrinkled whereas photoaged skin usually is more coarsely wrinkled. Repeated or long period of exposure to UV radiation causing excessive matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) leading to degradation of collagen, collagen deficiency in skin thus forming wrinkles. Besides, it was found that Crow's feet, a branching wrinkle at the outer corner of a person's eyes are more noticeable in smoker than non-smoker. Some wrinkles are also caused by certain habits such as frowning, squinting and grimacing.
